The Necker Cube
Created by Guido Moretti, this is an example of his illusionary sculpture work. The end result is visually stunning. There is in fact no cube present in the sculpture, but a representation of a 2D drawing of an impossible cube. Guido Moretti comes across as somewhere between an illusionist, an artist and a mathematician. This seems a logical extension of the work of Dali, Escher and other masters of optical trickery. Moretti mentions that “anyone can apply the methods I have adopted for creating sculptures.” It seems his ‘third way to sculpture’ could potentially be adopted by other artists, perhaps even more conventional ones, too.
